Mental Health critical illness cover

As with life insurance, it is very possible to get Mental Health critical illness cover and terms can be very favourable for people with either mild symptoms or historical issues. Generally milder types of mental health problems (e.g. Anxiety, Depression or Stress) tend to be easier to apply for and terms can be offered at the same rates as for someone with no previous medical issues. Also, if your mental health problems were several years ago and you have not experienced any issues recently then you should be able to get cover at standard rates with no issues.

For more severe cases or more recent issues then you may find that you will be asked to provide medical evidence from your GP or specialist to help support your application for Mental Health critical illness cover. Our specialists have experience dealing with all of the top insurance underwriters so we know which insurers will be the most favourable for you and your individual circumstances.

Mental Health income protection

It is also possible to get Mental Health income protection in most cases, especially where the symptoms are mild or if your issues are historical with no recent problems. Terms can also vary from standard rates with no exclusions for mild cases or for someone who has not experienced issues for several years.

Insurance underwriters will also want to know how much time you have had off work in recent years because of your condition. You may find that for some applications for Mental Health income protection there could be exclusions applied to your policy which are connected to your condition.

We were approached by this gentleman on the 28th February 2020 when he completed an enquiry through our website. Our advisor Karl then contacted him to further discuss his life insurance needs and any pre-existing medical conditions he may have. This is when the gentleman disclosed that he was a recovering alcoholic with depression. Karl then requested further information from the client, this is when he explained that he has been in recovery since 2014 and has been sober ever since. He then went onto explain that his depression is mild, and he currently doesn’t require any treatment for it. After taking this information on board, Karl then asked the gentleman why he needed life insurance, how much he wanted and for how long. The gentleman then explained that he needed cover for his mortgage and therefore needed £210,000 of cover for a 29-year period. Due to the fact that he needed the cover for his mortgage, Karl suggested decreasing cover as it is cheaper than level cover and designed to cover mortgages. The gentleman agreed that this was the best option for him, and so on the 18th March 2020 Karl secured the gentleman £210,000 of cover for a 29-year period for a monthly premium of £20.37.

This is an amazing outcome as the gentleman now has the protection that he deserves. He was delighted with the outcome as Karl managed to secure him the cover he needs within his budget so he has peace of mind that his family will be protected should the worst happen. Furthermore, this is a brilliant out come for us as we are passionate about protecting people and love finding people the protection that they deserve.
