Ulcerative Colitis And Life Insurance:

Life Insurance for people who suffer from Ulcerative Colitis is generally accepted by the majority of providers. It will either be at standard rates (no loading) or can come with special terms. Where additional loadings or special terms are applied, this will usually be due to more regular symptoms and medication / treatment.

It is possible to obtain Life Insurance for Ulcerative Colitis at standard rates with no additional loading. This is when symptoms are less frequent or there have been no symptoms in the past 12 months.

If your Ulcerative Colitis diagnosis was recent, it may be possible to postpone Life Insurance cover until your condition stabilises. Your cover may be postponed if you’ve recently had surgery or you are awaiting surgery. It may also be postponed when Ulcerative Colitis is combined with other linked conditions such as Liver Disease.

Critical Illness Cover For Ulcerative Colitis:

Generally there’s a good chance that Critical Illness Cover can be secured if you have a history of Ulcerative Colitis. There may, however, be loading and / or exclusions applied.

Cover can be secured if your Ulcerative Colitis is well managed with few flare ups. If you are receiving mild medication or treatment, cover is possible. This would be at standard rates or with a small rating.

Underwriters will want to know the frequency and severity of any symptoms (flare-ups) and details of any medication or treatment. They will also need to know details of any surgery or planned surgery and the date you were diagnosed.

If the symptoms and treatment are more serious, there will generally be an additional loading applied to the premium. Exclusions may also be included within the policy you are offered.

In some more severe cases, Critical Illness Cover may be declined for Ulcerative Colitis based on underwriting risk factors.

It’s important to read any offer of terms before accepting a policy. This is to ensure the cover meets your needs and is adequate for your requirements.

Income Protection And Ulcerative Colitis:

Income Protection for Ulcerative Colitis can be difficult to secure at standard rates and without any exclusions. Insurance underwriters will need to know all relevant information about your condition to accurately assess your application. A GP / medical report will usually be required.

Cover is possible if you’ve had few symptoms in the past 12 months. If your Ulcerative Colitis is well controlled with mild medication, you should also have no problems.

However, it may be offered with a small premium increase and / or some exclusions. For more severe and regular symptoms with stronger medication, a higher loading may be applied with exclusions, or even a decline.
