High BMI, Migraines and Idiopathic Inter-cranial Hypertension – Case Study

Sarah was declined life Insurance before finding the Insurance Surgery.

Background:

Sarah is 40 years old, in her own words “my world consists of my husband and 3 beautiful children”. Life was great for the family, until Sarah’s mother got ill earlier this year. This brought home to Sarah the reality of her own mortality, and the family she could leave behind. To protect her loved ones Sarah thought it was time to think about life insurance.

Applying of Life Insurance:

Using the regular method, Sarah first tried a comparison site – to her own bewilderment, she was refused?

Sarah has 2 unrelated neurological medical conditions (Migraines and Idiopathic Inter-cranial Hypertension) with a high BMI of 43.4, these conditions were pulled up on a comparison search and her application was automatically declined.

Unfortunately, this was just the beginning of what was a very stressful and traumatic period for Sarah. After being declined from the life insurance comparison site, Sarah thought she would try companies directly and compare prices herself. Unfortunately, she had to go through the whole experience of declaring her medical conditions and discussing her BMI, only to be declined by 2 different insurers.

Contacting the Insurance Surgery:

Sarah got together with some friends, she mentioned about her life insurance journey and how her BMI affected her options. Shocked, a friend mentioned her own great experience with The Insurance Surgery. Sarah thought that it was worth a shot and gave us a call after checking out our website.

Results:

Sarah spoke to our expert Advisor, Neil throughout the entire life insurance process. Neil knew that he had two options, so he first went with the more cost-effective mainstream provider. Due to the neurological conditions (that are unrelated, as advised by a specialist) the mainstream insurer declined the application. Neil, unhappy with this result wanted the best for Sarah, so he contested and asked Sarah if she had any relevant material that would confirm the conditions were unrelated. Sarah had a letter from a specialist confirming this, so sent in a copy. Neil provided this to the insurer and Sarah’s case has now been referred to an underwriter to reassess the possibility of taking a policy. Neil and Sarah are currently waiting for a response.

Never Give Up:

Contesting a declined application can take time, so while the case is still on-going Neil applied to the slightly more expensive life insurance provider and was successful! Neil continues to work hard to get Sarah that better deal. For Sarah however, she is relieved that her family are protected, if the worst was to happen.

The Insurance Surgery takes every application seriously and will always go above and beyond to find the best deal, we won’t quit at the first hurdle!
