HIV & Life Insurance – Case study

Matthew’s was struggling to keep up his life insurance payments.

Are you struggling to keep up with your life insurance payments? You’re not alone. Many people find themselves in a similar situation, but there is help available.

Matthew found the Insurance Surgery, after being referred by a friend. He was getting increasingly worried that he wouldn’t be able to afford his existing life insurance policy. (note; If at any time finances start to worry you. It’s always a good idea to get advice from an expert).

Matthew is 31 and lives with HIV; he keeps his condition under control with medication and regular 6 monthly reviews. When Matthew received his previous life insurance policy in 2016, underwriting was different and covering HIV was more expensive.

However, Life insurance underwriting is constantly evolving and now people living with HIV can obtain great rates for life insurance. The Insurance Surgery are proud to be part of a movement that has fought for this change. We are confident that on most occasions we can save people money on their policy, with our price match promise.

Matthew spoke with Dianne, his dedicated Protection Advisor he highlighted that he was struggling financially. She didn’t judge, she approached the matter with sensitivity, taking care when asking questions about Matthew’s outgoings.

Finding a suitable HIV life insurance policy:

As a result, Dianne wanted to help Matthew find an affordable policy, that was also up to date with current underwriting criteria.

In under 2 hours of calling The Insurance Surgery, Dianne had found a range of different options available. Matthew was pleased to know that we could reduce his premium, and still have all the benefits, plus more from his previous policy! Matthew was over the moon and set-up the new policy immediately! The Insurance Surgery want everyone to feel financially resilient should the unexpected happen. Knowing that your family/partner/friend(s) will be financially supported can be a great peace of mind.

Added benefits:

Life insurance policies now mostly come with added benefits, for examples a 24/7 GP service. We recommend that you check with your protection advisor on what benefits come with your policy and use the services available to you. NHS waiting times are increasing and it’s never been harder to see a GP. If you’ve got a policy through us and you’re unsure on who your insurer is and the benefits – give us a call and we will let you know.

6 months on:

6 months down the line and the great news is Matthew feels comfortable with his premium and hasn’t missed a single payment. It doesn’t take much to support someone and at the Insurance Surgery we pride ourselves on supporting the people that need it the most. We will always look for the best solution, no matter how long it takes.
