Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2015
Breast Cancer insurance specialists
October is breast cancer awareness month in the UK with more than 55,000 women and around 350 men each year being diagnosed. This means fundraising is substantial throughout the month with events such as Brave the Shave, Go Sober and The Big Pink to name a few, with celebrities such as Kylie Minogue, Taylor Swift and Rob Lowe supporting the cause amongst many, many more.
According to figures from Breast Cancer UK 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime with 1 in 5 affecting women under 50, which is approximately 1 person every 10 minutes. This is a 90% increase in England since records began in 1971. Because of these statistics, more and more companies are looking for help in raising awareness and to support everyone being diagnosed with breast cancer from the start.
Companies such as Breast Cancer Care, Cancer Research and Breast Cancer UK all work hard throughout the year, not just in October so that sure your friends, your family or whoever may be affected receives the most efficient and effective care possible.
What about Cancer and Life Insurance?
The Insurance Surgery is a leading insurance specialist for people living with pre-existing medical conditions such as Breast Cancer. While most people may consider Cancer as an uninsurable condition, cover is still possible but there are still some factors to consider.
Underwriting considerations for Cancer will include:
- Length of time since diagnosis
- Length of time since treatment
- Site of cancerous cells (or tumour)
- Grade and stage of the cancer
- Affected Areas
Although you may have previously been declined life insurance The Insurance Surgery works hard across the whole of the market to find the best available cover possible, however it may incur additional loadings to premiums or exclusions on Critical Illness/TPD (Total and Permanent Disability).
Our client was looking for £200,000 of Life Cover for family protection (Level Term) over a period of 40 years.

Mrs Bakewell - October 2015:
This could have been a very stressful experience - it was my first application for life insurance since breast cancer diagnosis four years ago. From the very beginning I was reassured and treated with care. When the first insurer refused my application, the second was contacted immediately. Follow-up phone calls from the team meant that I was never left wondering and they even contacted my doctor's surgery to speed up the health report that was needed. After the application was accepted I was sent a form for appointing a trustee and there was someone to talk me through that process. I would recommend the company to anyone with pre-existing medical conditions. That took all the stress out of my search.
