The Insurance Surgery are proud to announce a fantastic new partnership with The Brain Charity offering support, advice and access to insurance for those living with neurological conditions.
16.5 million people live with a neurological condition in the UK
Neurological conditions are disorders of the brain, spinal cord, or nerves. They can have a range of causes including genetic factors, traumatic injury, and infection. The causes of some of these conditions are still not well understood. The Brain Charity offers emotional support, practical help, and social activities to anyone with a neurological condition and to their family, friends, and carers. There are hundreds of different neurological conditions, including stroke, brain injury, dementia, cluster headaches, and many rarer ones too – they are there for every single one. Being diagnosed with a neurological condition can be a frightening and bewildering experience; many people face unemployment, poverty, and social isolation as a result. Their mission is to enable all those affected by neurological conditions to live longer, healthier, happier lives. Everyone will fight together for an inclusive society: a world where stigma, hardship and isolation are replaced by compassion and understanding. The charity was born in Liverpool in 1993 and currently has 40 members of staff and around 80 volunteers. Over half of the staff team have neurological conditions, as do over 60 per cent of the volunteers. The Brain Charity’s central Liverpool HQ is also home to The Brain Food Café, a community café which offers not just a safe, healthy, and welcoming place to eat but opportunities for work experience too. Their main Liverpool centre is also where they deliver the majority of services, offering a weekly programme of courses and social activities including craft clubs, choir, boccia and other exercise sessions. To complement this centralised support, they offer several community-based services such as physiotherapy and occupational therapy for people with dementia and children with neurological conditions.
