In March 2011 the European Court of Justice decided that it would no longer be possible to take gender in to account when setting insurance prices. The ruling is set to come in to force on the 21st December, 2012 at which point it is very likely that the price of certain insurance products such as Life Insurance and Car Insurance will change.

It is a little known fact that people who smoke any form of tobacco products such as Cigarettes, Cigars and Tobacco are likely to pay nearly double what a Non-smoker would pay for the same amount of Life Insurance. The size of the increase in premiums is dependant on the age of the applicant(s) and their smoking habits. The reason for the increase in premiums is simply down to the increased risks relating to the many medical conditions related to smoking tobacco.

The Insurance Surgery are constantly working with providers on developing new products to improve the way that our clients are viewed by insurers. One of the major areas where we have been campaigning for more choice and developments is Critical Illness Cover for Diabetes. There have been no providers offering this products for Diabetes in recent times and we wanted to know why and get something done about it. Previous products have also been expensive and had a number of exclusions so we wanted to make sure that any terms offered were fair and reasonable. It has now come to light that several providers are offering Diabetes Critical Illness Cover with more likely to join the market soon which is excellent news.
